Congratulations to @DoughertyForVA on her first bill being signed into law! This law allows for courts to require perpetrators of family abuse to contribute to their families' rent or mortgage payments -- because victims of abuse should never have to sacrifice safety to afford housing.

Curtis Allen made history. He was the first player from a HBCU, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, and the Commonwealth to win the Harlon Hill Trophy, which recognizes the NCAA Division II player of the year and is the division's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy.

It was a pleasure to make my first embassy visit and meet Shigeo Yamada, Japan’s ambassador to the United States. In a time filled with division, it is of paramount importance that we work across borders to create a better, more affordable future for everyone.

Today I am eating blue catfish to save our environment. I also put in a budget proposal to protect populations of shad and save the ecosystem of the James River. As a budgetary and financial expert, I know the importance of investing in our future. 🐟

Today I took an oath. I am looking forward to being held to that oath by members of my community. Thank you for everyone from Chesterfield, Hopewell, Prince George, and beyond for coming to my swearing-in.

Virginia recently lost its spot in CNBC’s rankings as the top state for business. I’m here to work towards making Virginia the best state for small business. By saving time and money for individuals, families, and small businesses, we can do just that. Insert House Bill 364!

Even when government at other levels fall short, I’m here to make sure that the Commonwealth makes strides. I am willing to work with everyone to make Virginia the top state in the country for research. I am honored that House Bill 363 passed subcommittee in a unanimous vote.

I am working to make Virginia the best state in the nation for education. The first bill I introduced is meant to move us in the right direction to do just that. We need to get back to basics!

Being a mother and a legislator isn’t always easy. But moments like this at the State of the Commonwealth, with so many firsts happening, make me remember whose future I’m fighting for.

Today, the work begins.
