Back in the early computer business days, it was "You don't get fired for buying IBM" With a lot of a college staff scouting falling to the younger, less-sure-of-their-status assistants, they naturally feel more secure in pushing a prospect to their head coach if peer programs have already offered the kid. A similar trend is to see previously under-ranked players just skyrocket up the rankings overnight... after a high major offers them. It's a flawed process, with a 2/3rds failure rate.

it is hard to describe just how high of an academic prospect Tyler was, but now he will be having even more AP and honors classes on his transcript. This extra year of basketball is going to solidify him as a priority target for high academic colleges. 6’4

I’ve been a student of this men’s college basketball placement process for a couple of decades now For such a important process to have a 2/3rds failure rate is just crazy to me Weird dynamics… lack of useful information flow… No comparable experience for 1st-timer families to draw on as a guide Understandable why it’s this bad, but it’s still just shocking that it’s so bad

I’ve developed the attitude when I see so many prep alums having these massively successful freshman seasons, and then see how many college staffs that seem to be oblivious to the fact Being all-portal (competing for over-bought assets) instead of shopping the under-recruited prep ranks It just makes me wonder if they have the savvy and intellect…to being any thing more than mediocre at the rest of their jobs #JimmiesAndJoes
