DHS is thrilled to have been named an Ambassador Eco-School and received a Green Flag for the fifth time. This achievement has taken a huge amount of planning, time and effort to coordinate and our thanks go to Mrs Wilson, the pupils and staff at DHS.

Congratulations to the Year 8 netballers who took part in the local schools' tournament on Wednesday. There was plenty of skill and enthusiasm on display from everyone and the A team came 3rd overall.

Year 8 had an excellent day of netball at the annual U13 Rockport tournament. The A team were runners up in their section winning 3 of their 4 matches. The B team showed fantastic improvement in all their matches.

As our senior pupils head off on study leave it also marks an end to our House competition for the year. Congratulations to Lecale for claiming the cup - it is always a tightly fought race! Thank you to all the House Captains for their effort this year.

Today we sent a fond farewell to the class of 2025. We wish them well in their upcoming A2 exams. All the best for your future.

Aspire Ambassadors from DHS and Lecale Trinity Grammar School are working with Dr Tim Campbell and the Saint Patrick Centre on a project exploring issues such as slavery, human trafficking, and women in the church. They were joined this week by the Education Minister, Paul Givan.

Our Aspire Ambassadors, Mr Peter Close and other academics are producing a research paper promoting Sustainable Drainage Systems (SUDS). This is in response to last year's devastating flooding of Downpatrick. MLAs Colin McGrath and Andrew McMurray joined for the first meeting.

The Aspire Ambassadors met up for our second day last week. The Juniors looked at 'Our Schools, Our Pastimes and Our Community' and the Seniors were challenged to join at least one of eight different projects. Thank you to everyone involved for making this another successful day

Well done to the Year 11 and 12 GCSE Further Maths students that took part in the UKMT Intermediate Maths Challenge. Matthew Boyd qualified for the Pink Kangaroo round and Orido Nojima finished in the top 500 students in the UK, and qualified for the Hamilton Olympiad.

A big thankyou to everyone who took park in the community beach clean at Tyrella on Saturday morning. It was so encouraging to see so many willing families and friends out to help.

Down High School are looking forward to taking part in the Big Walk and Wheel Challenge later in March. We urge all pupils and staff to think about their transport options.

Well done to all the Year 8 pupils that took part in the History House Castle Competition. There were a range of impressive entries and prizes were awarded to Hamish Harty 8M, Jacob Boyd 8M and Emily Kerr 8L.

Everyone is welcome to the beach clean community event on Saturday. Pupils for DHS and Lecale Trinity Grammar will be involved in aid of Earth Hour 2025.

Congratulations to Gabriel Gormley 13S and Sera Thomas 14D who competed at the prestigious Edgar Graham Memorial Public Speaking held at Stormont. Both students were exemplary in their performances, and Gabriel’s speech on how ‘It is ok to be bored’ was highly commended.

The Year 8 pupils enjoyed their recent trip to The Saint Patrick Centre for RS. They explored the exhibition, reenacted aspects of St Patrick's life in a drama lesson and visited his grave. The tour concluded with a look around Down Cathedral.
