The outage is due to a suspected 88kV overhead line (OHL) fault on Kloofendal 1. City Power operators are currently on site, and Eskom is expected to switch on once it is safe to do so. Residents were afforded an opportunity to pose questions and raise concerns specific to the challenges experienced within their respective wards. This interactive segment of the engagement enabled community members to directly engage with councillors and municipal representatives on matters affecting their daily lives. A prominent issue raised by residents relates to the cost of electricity, particularly tariffs charged by City Power. Many residents expressed concern over the rising cost of electricity and indicated that, while they are willing to meet their payment obligations, the current rates are increasingly unaffordable. This concern highlights the broader socio-economic pressures facing communities and underscores the need for the City of Johannesburg to consider affordability, equitable tariff structures, and possible support mechanisms when reviewing pricing policies.
