@DownToTen @dan_ofthesouth Exactly. Pretty sure the 3rd team potentially qualifying means 0 teams are dead before the last match, provided they don't have the H2H rule in place H2H makes sense in a baseball or NFL season....but not in a 3 game group

I think there is this thing called qualifying where they are supposed to earn it? Can't be sure though

@OneMorePoint1 @dan_ofthesouth That's a fair point. My counter to that is that I think you'll always get 'dead rubber' games, as we did in this WC too (although that was down to the H2H tiebreaker)

@DownToTen @dan_ofthesouth 3rd place teams maybe getting through (personally I like that rule and live the current Euros format) ensures every single game has something at stake Top two only qualifying means you get dead matches like Panama v Algeria in 2018, France V Hungary 78 etc

I think this WC has seen the "mid-level" countries like Senegal, Japan, Ivory Coast etc. really improve, and I think that's been a long term result of expansion in 1998. And in terms of money, IIRC Tunisia earnt more money than if they won AFCON. Plus, more games on TV.

@DownToTen @dan_ofthesouth 64 teams would make more teams dream especially asian and African teams. You guys have been in almost every edition but for other countries we've never been close and on top of that the 32 format meant it was unlikely
