@ryangrim In Russia, mainly. Most of the other Post Soviet states did fine, comparatively. Then Russia starts invading the ones that were effectively in between.

The collapse of the Soviet Union saw the greatest peace time reduction in life expectancy and standard of living of any major human population ever. Just an fyi.

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim Also- the notion that Iran isnt going to get long term substantial military support from Beijing and Moscow- is probably a bit naive to say the least.

@Dowoftheajones1 @ryangrim The point is. There is absolutely no comparison between Iran and Ukraines situation. One has been provided with endless weapons, finance and political assistance, the other has been under 50 yrs of sanctions.

What startles us in the US is when we meet somebody who has actually thought something through. That is an entirely foreign concept to us. You mean they had a thought, worked it through, considered various scenarios, re-worked the thought, and then implemented a plan? Weird.

Iran has been digging out underground missile sites struck by American and Israeli bombs, returning them to operation hours after an attack, according to U.S. intelligence reports -NYT Israeli media has also reported that Iran can bulldoze tunnels open in under 12 hours.

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim Both fights are just in the face of imperialist powers in Moscow and Washington. That's literally all I'm trying to point out with this.

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim Again, the only thing I'm trying to point out is that both fights require massive and prominent buy in from both societies. And you're ignoring the fact that Iran has just as much economic power through its control over Hormuz as, say, the years of economic support to Ukraine.

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim Or the notion that economic support would buy in millions of people's want and will go suffer through four years of near total war, arieal bombardment, etc- with no historical analogue to support such a claim without giving Ukrainian society agency?

@Dowoftheajones1 @ryangrim Not if the country became a defacto NATO colony, they have no say. There is a reason Ukraine has 400k + desertions in the past year

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim So, you're arguing that NATO troops are fundamentally occupying and subjugating the rights of (even if you give the credit of 10 million people leaving post 2022) a population of 30 million? Or are you saying that the economic support is buying off Ukrainian society's support.

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim Let alone Ukrainian society? The notion that fighting the war to preserve the Ukrainian state is a minority opinion in Ukraine, four years into a war that fully requires buy in from the population to wage, is ludicrous?

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim Yes, there are people who are being picked off the street. But do you think that the Ukrainian Army, which is the armed party of the state, doesnt have the ability to overthrow the government if it was being forced to fight against Russia? If you do, I have a bridge to sell you.

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim Ukraine has advantages in support from the West, Iran has the advantage of being able to cause great pain to the West through control of Hormuz. Both of those advantages mean absolutely nothing if their societies arent willing to fight for national survival.

@Noel_knows01 @ryangrim I'm in no way dissing Iran and its fight against the US right now. I'm merely pointing out that Ukraine and Iran are both ultimately in fights of national survival, and that requires buy in from both societies. Which should profoundly be seen as commendable, in both cases.

We see our home planet as a whole, lit up in spectacular blues and browns. A green aurora even lights up the atmosphere. That's us, together, watching as our astronauts make their journey to the Moon.

@telephonic1892 @ryangrim And yet the Russians have taken less then 20% of the country after slogging about for 4 years in the Donbass. Yes, theres corruption- but for some reason Ukrainian defenses are still able to make it so the Russians aren't exactly in a hurry to finish the war on their terms.

@NovaNauval58209 @MrGlobal2025 I'm sorry- if you leave Iran with control of access in and out of the strait post war, and a far more hardline regime that has no qualms with striking its neighbors after a US led war- how is that considered a win?
