I got this text - a pretty common, yet realistic, phishing attempt. I fed it into @grok and it confirmed the scam attempt. Get your elderly parents Grok and have them verify texts and emails that look unusual - @grok is a simple frontline defense to scams and keeping your vulnerable friends and family safe - outside all of its other great capabilities. @elonmusk - it’d be nice if Grok had a proactive feature that could scan text messages and emails for likely scam attempts.

I see a ton of positives in both of these candidates. Gov Fletcher has the political chops on his side - which will help during confirmation - and @DrJMarine’s background is very impressive and is definitely rock solid on MAHA issues. I think both would be excellent leaders of CDC. If this is true, the Trump Administration has pulled two needles from a haystack that could pass the Senate confirmation gauntlet.

Interesting. HHS has TOTAL discretion over the membership requirement given it can simply update the charter - ACIP is authorized under broad FACA (meaning the Secretary has broad authority) and not expressly authorized by congress (which it has done with other committees - including specifying membership). So, if I was HHS, and wanted to quickly move forward, I’d update the charter and modify the membership requirements. Then, throw up a federal register notice soliciting nominations, and then appoint new members - which could potentially be all the previous members. Why fight a court case, which could take months, when you can quickly modify the charter and get to the outcome you want.

Great article from a former HHS colleague.

There is so much I dislike in this opinion - and that doesn’t make sense based on the FACA appointment process . And, given this particular judges stance against the admin, I feel pretty confident that this will be overturned upon appeal. (Thread #7)

This is utter BS. As the former White House Liaison at HHS under President Trump's first term, we ran the FACA appointments process. The HHS Secretary has final authority over ACIP appointments. Period!

ALSO - the biggest losers if this decision is uniformly applied to the other FACA committees would be elitist medical higher education centers. If you look at FACA membership across HHS, a LOT of members tend to live very close to the east or west coast.

ALSO - Democrats should be ABSOLUTELY wary of this decision. If you were to do a political partisan balance test on the HHS FACAs - all 280 of them - you would very likely see an extremely partisan bent towards folks registered as Democrats.

This will get overturned. It is well enshrined in FACA law that the sitting Secretary can appoint and fire members on their own authority and based on the charter of the committee. It is also wildly political to do this two days before hearing. What a joke apple.news/ApdfOJLXMRa6jX…
