Slightly hyperbolic title, but rings true. Everyone wants to be data-driven, but your data pipeline needs just as much engineering effort as your software pipeline, and often with much more niche domain knowledge.

Perhaps my most controversial opinion: In machine learning education, the focus on supervised learning and particularly on classification problems gives people a totally misguided idea about how to use data to solve real problems.

Well well well, I spent this evening trying to modernise a project we mothballed in 2017 so I could get it running again, and then I realised I never killed the VM it was hosted on! It's been running all this time... that's good, I guess?
