The Jewish New Year, beginning on the evening of October 3 this year, marks the start of a period focused on returning and renewal. This season is often compared to doing laundry: just as God granted each of us a pure and clean soul, over the past year we have tarnished it in various ways, big and small. In this time, we strive to cleanse and polish our souls by acknowledging and correcting any mistakes we have made, taking responsibility for our actions, and addressing our shortcomings within ourselves and our community. On Yom Kippur, the final day of the High Holy Days known as the "Day of Repentance," we present our purified souls to God, seeking forgiveness and redemption. We understand that despite our efforts, we will inevitably make mistakes in the upcoming year; however, we hope to learn from them and make them more meaningful. It is as if we are always wearing our finest attire, the one gifted to us by God, so we endeavor to maintain its cleanliness. As humans, we are grateful for this annual opportunity to cleanse our souls, aiming for a brighter and more virtuous year ahead. May your soul shine brightly this year and always.
