Any simple trawl through the jobs being advertised by UK Universities shows how few academics are being sought, and how many administrators are being employed. These self-same administrators then create more administration, placing a greater burden on the teachers and researchers in a doom-loop of process management. I'm thinking of pivoting my professional work to advising universities on how to hack-away the undergrowth of administration and process management, keeping only the essential stuff, and eliminating the waste. 20% will remain, and 80% can go in my estimation.

@enzoreds I suspect (and fear) the answer here is partially yes. Parts of higher education deemed critical to the economy will be mostly safe in the public sector. Parts of higher education critical of it not so much.

I've been asked today by Cambridge Uni Press whether I'd like to sign a deal for my books to be used in generative AI licensing agreements. The offer is a royalty of 20% of any deal. Am rather wary of my work being used this way for various reasons. Any advice? Feel free to r/t.
