“We refuse to appeal to the benevolence of the colonisers for our lives to matter, because we know that their existence on this continent remains legally predicated upon our non-existence.” ~ Prof Chelsea Watego theconversation.com/we-just-black-…

And no more teaching Aboriginal kids to be ‘resilient’ without enforcing anti-racism policies for non-Indigenous teachers and students so that our kids don’t need to be so resilient in the first place.

Prof Brendan Hokowhitu says the Western Academy doesn’t just try to control Western knowledge, but what knowledge is itself & this is problematic for #IndigenousStudies. It is systemically racist.

SUCH a privilege to be present to hear from Professors Tom Calma AO and Marcia Langton AO as they walked us gently but resolutely through origins and potential of The Voice…and to see them recognised with Honorary Doctorates. #unisa #TheVoice #TheHawkeCentre

Stop calling it classroom management system. Plan for engagement, inspiration, scaffolds, challenge, joy, learning, and empowerment. Then there won’t be much to manage. They’re children. Not workers. They’re kids. They’re already brilliant. 💡

Even the statement, “Let’s invite more Black people to the table,” implies ownership of the table and control of who is invited. Racism is about power.

I'm excited by the release of our book which details the collaborative effort of our authors detailing their co-designed research with young people. This collective effort that showcases creative methodologies is sure to inspire educational research. #CRESI

The reason I am so worried about the voice is that I’ve seen over and over again how the establishment of *official* Blak voices is used to silence and alienate us unofficial ones 1/?

A lot of academics are all about "decolonization" (that is, Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion) in public until it comes down to peer reviews, tenure reviews, search committees where they privately become the gatekeepers who silence & exclude the voices they claim to amplify.

Since we’re tweeting about John Howard here’s a fun bit of trivia: the ‘75 Racial Discrimination Act has only ever been suspended on 3 occasions. Each time it was suspended in order for the govt to do racist shit which the RDA could have made unlawful. Each time was under Howard.

‘Recognizing+respecting Indigenous territories & rights’ (via imperialist law) is NOT the same as affirming Indigenous sovereignty + affirming and respecting Indigenous legal orders (& it’s not #LandBack). Canada upholds UNDRIP while brutally criminalizing land protectors. #COP15
