I don’t think people realize how much healthcare costs are driving big companies to fire and not hire. It costs them $30k per family, per year for premiums and care. Most of that goes to the massive, vertically integrated insurance companies that send weekly bills that no one reviews in details. And it doesn’t include the company overhead to deal with it all. It’s usually the 2nd largest expense after payroll. Which is insane It’s far easier to blame AI than it is to blame Healthcare costs. Want to increase jobs, wages and improve affordability for every American ? Break up the biggest insurance companies. Make divest non insurance companies. They don’t need thousands of subsidiaries. That’s how they game and abuse the system and increase costs for all of us. Call your senator and tell them to support the BreakUp Big Medicine Bill by @HawleyMO and @SenWarren.

Husband and I tried Miami for 1 year after living in SF and NYC tech scenes. Very top heavy - mostly successful founders and VCs who go to live in their nice houses and aren’t out there being part of the community Tons of larping founders - I got invited to some “female founder dinners” and every single woman showed up dressed for a kardashian wedding and had obviously spent all their time in the salon, not building a startup The grifting is real - we won Miami Hack Week in 2023. The $10k prize money did not exist and it took 6 months to even get a hold of the organizer. He never paid. When the next Miami hack week came around, I tried telling 3 people in the community. Organizer told them I was a liar and that I had been paid. This bullshit would never happen in SF or NYC. Miami hack week seems to have a new organizer now so I’m hopeful it’s being better managed.

@raechellambert Tracks. Miami is still an immature city. Fun fact: The SEC charged and sued the City of Miami in 2013 for civil fraud. It was found liable for securities fraud in 2016.

Want to know one of the biggest problems in healthcare? Deductibles. Deductibles are defined by the plans the insurance companies design. Then they are approved to be offered by the feds or employers. Then we the people decide what deductible we want when we choose our plans. Often we choose higher deductibles because we are healthy or because we can only afford the lowest premium plan. When we got get care and can't pay our deductible for whatever reason, you know who takes all the credit risk and losses? Doctors, hospitals and caregivers They have ZERO to do with designing, selling or choosing the plans. But when you can't pay, they are the ones that become the bill collectors we hate. The ones that put millions into default and bankruptcy, DESPITE HAVING NO SAY in the plans and deductibles we all choose. That is one fucked up system that needs to be redesigned. Next time I'll tell you how insurance companies decide not to pay what they contractually owe to the hospitals and use delay tactics like denials, they know they will approve , just to earn interest on premiums. And the hospitals aren't innocent. But I'll let them off the hook for now because they have to take anyone that walks in the doors @BillAckman @elonmusk @DOGE @RobertKennedyJr @DrOz

On a plane flight right now someone just vomited while in their seat. But instead of vomiting on themselves, between their legs, in a bag or anywhere a normal person would. They chose the main character option standing straight up... Dousing the 2 rows in front of them as they all slept in near perfect form. All while avoiding getting any vomit on themselves. I can't imagine the horror of being fast asleep mouth slightly open waking up to a wet feeling on your face and the horrifying realization that someone just puked on you. Nightmare fuel type stuff.

To-do lists without a big goal lack direction. Likewise, big goals that have no concrete tasks attached to them are unlikely to go anywhere. Turn a big dream into an attainable goal by breaking it into tasks you can do today, this week, this month, and so on. —@PipDecks
