@francisdeng I am curious to hear your thoughts on how results being available online from a scan to the patient BEFORE the ordering provider has had a chance to speak to the pt. sometimes it causes unnecessary anxiety and panic

Patients can now read their reports through online portals, too, offering another chance to avoid missed diagnosis. Perhaps there will be a greater role for radiologists in the future to write patient-friendly summaries and/or communicate results directly to the patient.

Failure to effectively communicate A teen presented to the ED with chest pain and dyspnea. A CXR was reported below. The patient/family were led to believe it was normal and were discharged home. He died 3 days later. Parents sued. Hospital just settled for $16 million. 🧵
