Being able to read, and understand your surroundings is a lot different than observing and appreciating it. Taking that understanding and knowing how to apply it and how it fits within the ecosystem, the larger environment, and then on cultural levels is a different level of 1/2

through shared learning is the focus and end goal. There are more dynamics of culture which factor into this, and each Native Tribe and community is different, so keep that in mind as well. 6/6

in individual-focused societies, those who are asked questions will often poist themselves as "experts" and exhibit "power-over" behaviors. In many Native societies, the "expertise"/"being The Expert" is not the point, the betterment of the group and cultural cohesiveness 5/

I was called a unicorn because students apparently are upset that I only accept a few. I explained that it takes me almost twice the amount of time to work with a non-Native student, because of the amount of cultural *and* Tribal legal information they must know before working 2/
