#NACVGM Dana just asked if I had a discount code for my new book: I'm not sure if it's still active but try LXFANDF30 for 30% off at rowman.com/ISBN/978179362…. I also have some hard copies with me.

@BardicKnowledge I appreciate that compliment! It's why I decided to go with a recorded talk despite being here in person.

Sidenote on #nacvgm: I absolutely love pre-recorded talks because of how incredible the interaction can be between media examples and spoken prose. Stephanie is killing it on that front here re: multimodal presentation.

@PhilipSheppard Sorry to bother you, but who might I contact about copyright permission for your work? I'm writing an academic book on video game music and would like to use an example from Detroit:Become Human.(Fantastic composition, BTW - really emotionally gripping!)

@brohannes_jahms I will definitely add it to my list! I'll be working on a longer example of the paper that I can integrate this into. Isaac also suggested I look at Spec Ops: The Line, which shifts its perspective on war.

@DrStephLind #NACVGM Also was wondering if you've played Albert&Otto, which explores war (weirdly playfully) through the eyes of a child? It's been a while since I played it and cannot think of specific moments to bring up, but could be an interesting study!

Powell: discusses the Butterfly Effect mechanics. This sounds very reminiscent of Detroit: Become Human! #nacvgm

@DrStephLind Have a section of a diss chapter on silence where I discuss stasis as silence (via habituation to musical stimulus)

Stasis is an element that I've encountered a lot in game music analysis - whether it's harmonic stasis, melodic stasis, mode 'noodling', or ostinatos creating a sense of moving-while-not-moving. What are your stasis examples? #nacvgm

Grasso: discusses how music motivates the player to keep moving since it drops out if the player lingers in an area - a nice tie to Saari's video from yesterday! #nacvgm

Grasso: positions games on a spectrum of ludic-to narrative. This brings up questions of what defines play? #nacvgm

Austin: This presentation has me thinking of people 'trying too hard to be cool' - Austin provides a convincing argument that the Super Mario rap example is providing that cringe factor through cultural appropriation, which explains a lot. #nacvgm

You know that moment where a performance is so bad that somehow it magically becomes good purely out of entertainment value? That moment is now. #nacvgm
