@FracturedRTS @Resyaf_R I get all that, but from my understanding of how they operate, once they know about your game (if they choose to do it) it will be zero effort for you (and zero ongoing effort for you) - that's why I suggested it.
English

@Dr_DanT @Resyaf_R Yeah it still takes a good chunk of time to arrange. And for every update we now have to make sure it keeps working on both of and Mac. Just having a game on steam and on gog is already added tech debt whenever there is a change, let alone another platform. So it has to be worth
English

@FracturedRTS @Resyaf_R Sure - that's why I suggested the Porting Kit - as I understand how they work, they wouldn't charge you.
English

@FracturedRTS @Resyaf_R Thanks for being up-front about this... maybe consider poking the folks behind the Porting Kit about incorporating it so mac players can play it without needing any emulator expertise etc.
English

@Resyaf_R Honestly pretty low odds. It would mean having to maintain another copy of the game which adds considerable tech debt, while only a fraction of players play on mac. So unless apple gives us a very large bag of money its better for us to not do this. We dont even have macs xD

Oh, I did that thing where I write a blog post every two years... this time about what it means for something to be scientifically "settled" (or not).

@garethparfitt @Mofoman360 FWIW the suffragette movement did a lot more than the sanitised version we tell ourselves today... arson, bombings... they make JSO look very restrained.
English

@Mofoman360 I get the protesting. It makes people notice, puts their agenda in the public eye, and is an effective way to make a change. But the suffragettes never vandalised things. JSO message gets lost when they do.

A rare beast - a new blog post: "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?"

@justplay_ian As I say, I wasn't defending any behaviour or comments. I just felt there was a missing piece of the puzzle. Gamers are a very heterogeneous population. (Note: I am not sure the analogy you make fully holds. Probably too many nuances to disentangle in a handful of tweets...)
English

Ooh, lets dissect this because it is one of the major roots of “casual toxicity”
If you dont enjoy playing vs someone *purely* because they are better than you, then by definition youre competitive. Winning or losing was your primary driver or primary source of enjoyment 🧵
turnip max@maxstaxidermia
@Sixdiceskills perhaps its a result of how unenjoyable it is to play against someone way above your skill level? it can feel really bad, even if the player is the nicest person in the world.
English

@justplay_ian 2/2... is not losing per se, it is the loss of the hoped-for experience during the game (regardless of outcome).
Does that make sense?
(Not saying this applies to all casual players, and some tournament players can table someone whilst making them feel they have taken part)
English

@justplay_ian Ah, sorry, not sure I follow your question?
Maybe I wasn't very clear 😬
I think this situation, roughly speaking, is caused if skill difference goes over some threshold.
I.e. beyond some level of skill difference, basically only one player is taking part. So the problem... 1/2
English

@justplay_ian If I may add a nuance. Many casual players like *experiencing* what happens (troops killing things, dramatic moments etc)...with a big skill gap, this doesnt happen. They dont get to enjoy their troops doing stuff. Not saying this excuses any behaviour, just a nuance/different view.

@ILoveSnooker_ Alan McManus for me, I find his commentary very insightful, and always empathetic towards the players.
