They’re not going to stop at Jim Crow. They’re organizing like a group preparing to rebuild slavery in America. We’re not safe here and need to prepare for what that means.

I know we like to pinpoint to Nixon, Bush, and Reagan for the issues of the country. Unfortunately, our issues also stem back to the fall of Reconstruction with the Compromise of 1877 and not sentencing members of the Confederacy to death after the Civil War ended.

It's official. Republicans in the Alabama State House just passed legislation paving the way to eliminate Black representation in our state. We need to organize, mobilize, and vote like our lives depend on it. My full statement. 👇🏾

ICYMI, Chief Justice John Roberts wrote the talking points for a memo which sought to gut the Voting Rights Act—for Reagan, in 1982. It has been his lifelong project to disenfranchise Black people. Very, very tired of racist old white men dragging us backwards.

Let the record show that Louisiana had some Black men who spoke truth to power. Let the record show that Republicans in the Louisiana Senate are not leaders. They are a reflection of some of the worst parts of America, and history will remember them in 4K. Next week, this committee will vote on Louisiana’s congressional maps. Anything less than two Black seats is theft. They have already begun taking seats of power from us, so we need to begin the work of taking seats from them. If you agree with me, use your voice. In 1877, Southern Democrats agreed to end their filibuster of the contested results of the 1876 election in exchange for the removal of Federal troops from Southern states. This essentially ended Reconstruction, kicking off Jim Crow.
