A federal judge just blocked Gov. Jeff Landry from stopping Calvin Duncan from taking office as Clerk of Criminal District Court. At midnight, @calvin4clerk officially becomes Clerk. Congratulations, Black man. The fight continues.

We shot this ad four years ago. When people ask me to run for office again, my answer right now is no. I ran for office 3 times and lost. Now I’m focused on educating people so they understand the power they have to change how things are. Ask me if the national or state party has worked with us in the past 4 years before all this happened? No. The Supreme Court has empowered legislators to remove Black people from power. Do you still think this is a game to them? You still think things aren’t about race? Or do you realize the Klan changed its language and adjusted its strategy? Click the link in my bio to support Civics for the People. The more informed we are, the more we can exercise the power we already have. There are those of us who have been sounding the alarm for a while now. Maybe this is the season we take a different more direct approach to confronting the issues of today. Play time is over. Early voting starts tomorrow in Louisiana. Jeff KLandry has five constitutional amendments on the ballot. If you want to send him a message right now, meet him at the ballot box and vote down all five. Let the legislators know we see them and will respond accordingly. This is how the People push back. This is how voters remind politicians that power still belongs to the People. You don’t have to wait for the next governor’s race to be heard. You can speak this week. Every Black voter in Louisiana, every working person, every person tired of politicians using power against the people should show up and vote No on All 5. Let him know Louisiana is watching. Let him know every action has a response. Remind them that the people still have a voice. You may be governor today, but unchecked power has an expiration date. Early vote. Vote all five down. Send the message now. Thank you @joyannreid for always leaning in. Support Civics for the People at the link in my bio. Share if you care 🦾

Joined @rolandsmartin last night to talk about how to respond to the racist actions of Gov. Jeff Landry. Now is the time to put BTA on all 5 Constitutional Amendments. Now is the time for states to pay a economic price for being racist. Share if you care 🦾

This is real life in 2026, for all the people who say it’s not about race. “Gary, why you always talking about race?” Because America keeps using politics and policy to screw over Black people. Black members of Congress are often the ones fighting hardest to protect benefits and programs because they understand the need firsthand. Yesterday, Black voters were preparing to elect a Black member of Congress again. Today, they signed papers to cancel that part of the election until they can draw a new map where a white candidate has a better chance to win. That’s why we talk about race. Because they keep making it part of the story. Share if you care 🦾

Mr. Hug-a-Thug is Gov. Race Bait today. Some of y’all seemed to think he had a point the other day. Jeff Landry responded to the Supreme Court decision striking down Louisiana’s second majority-Black congressional district by saying the race baiting can end now. In other words, Black people seeking fair representation are being labeled as race baiting. Louisiana has a long history of stripping Black political power. We also have a long history of resistance. If you’re in or around Baton Rouge, pull up tomorrow for the community meeting at Louisiana Leadership Institute. Click the link in my bio to support Summer Sessions of Civics for the People as we educate and mobilize the people. Play time is over. Did you know that @dixonmcmakin, who is pushing bills to eliminate the seat of @calvin4clerk, is the announcer for @lsu sports? Dixon is from Baton Rouge, but he’s working to take away the clerk’s office in New Orleans and, in turn, nullify the votes of thousands of Black people. During debate, Dixon invoked language that echoed George Wallace, the segregationist former governor of Alabama. That history matters, especially while legislation is being used to overturn the will of voters in New Orleans. I’m curious how the Black Student Union and former Black athletes feel about Dixon being the voice of the Tigers. President Rousse, you have thousands of Black alumni in New Orleans being impacted by your sports announcer’s actions in his day job. I’m just wondering if y’all have connected the dots on Rep. McMakin yet. Share if you care 🦾

Jeff Landry has been the chief law enforcement officer of Louisiana for over a decade — eight years as AG, three as governor. We are still ranked #50 in crime. The governor stood at a podium today after a mass shooting at the Mall of Louisiana and offered nothing but the same failed playbook. More jails. More Angola. More dog whistles. At some point the record has to speak louder than the rhetoric. The data is clear — Jeff Landry’s policies cost us more money and they don’t make us safer. I am praying for every family impacted by this act of violence and all the violence across our state. Too many families are carrying this grief because our leaders choose to be reactive instead of proactive. Notice I’m not focused on his dog whistles and racism — that’s what he wants. His policies are far more racist than his rhetoric. Talk about how he’s failed as a leader. That’s how we remove him next year. Share if you care 🦾

I joined the @nativelandpod this week to talk about the recent acts of domestic violence impacting Black communities across the country. @bakarisellers asked what we should say to brothers we see on the verge of crashing out. My response was simple: first, make sure that Black woman is safe. I hope more of us begin to understand that every Black woman is somebody’s child, somebody’s baby. Love is an action word in my life. If we love Black women, we have an obligation to protect them. Accountability is not an attack brothers. I love us enough to say we can do better. What if I told you Black voters in Arkansas already have enough registered voters to erase the entire margin of defeat? Not hypothetically. Not someday. Right now. 90,000 estimated Black registered voters in just two counties. A 54,000 vote gap to close. The math isn’t the problem. The turnout is. Arkansas hasn’t had a Democratic member of Congress in years — but Chris Jones is on the ballot in 2026 and he’s already proven he can win across racial lines. Arkansas has never sent a Black person to Congress. That can change if Black voters run up the score. The question is, how bad do you want change? What happened in Shreveport should trouble the soul of everyone who saw the news. Eight children were killed, and two Black women were shot and critically injured in what authorities say was a domestic violence rampage that unfolded across multiple homes. Police say the children ranged from ages 3 to 11. As a Black man, I believe if our women don’t feel safe, we have an obligation to do something. Right now, that obligation is to confront the violence happening to our women and children, and to state clearly: the worst thing you can do in our community is take another Black life. Accountability is not an attack, brothers. Now is not the time for whataboutism. It’s time to speak truth if we want to save lives. Do you love what you produce? Too many of us are showing a lack of emotional intelligence, and it is costing us our lives—and the lives of our women and children. Again, accountability is not an attack. Share if you care.

Look at their faces. What do you see? I wanted to look them in the eye and say, on the record, that they are attempting to reconstruct this government to undo Black progress. Their targeting of @calvin4clerk is rooted in that reality, and it needed to be called out plainly. I showed up speaking for myself. No organization in Louisiana sent me. No party asked me to come. I say that to make clear much of this work is being done independently, without formal partnerships, and without the budgets, staff, or institutional backing many established organizations have. I came because what they are doing is wrong. The court reconstruction happening in New Orleans has been done in different ways already in Baton Rouge and across this state—especially in the largest, Blackest cities—to dilute Black political power. I started Civics for the People because I know many of us don’t know what is happening inside government or how these systems are used. It’s my way of teaching the game and helping our people move with knowledge. Their elections are in 2027. We can send them home to frown and chew grass much gum as they please. If you believe this work matters, support Civics for the People at the link in my bio so I can teach the people and send some on these people home. Share if you care 🦾

Justin Fairfax murdered his wife Cerina in their home, then killed himself and left their kids to pick up the pieces. As Black men, we need to be clear in moments like this: nothing is worth killing a Black woman. Nothing. Pain is real. Divorce is real. Depression is real. Rage is real. But none of it justifies violence against a woman. Too many Black women carry the weight of loving men who haven’t healed. Too many children are left to pick up trauma they didn’t create. A man who cannot control his anger is dangerous. And too often, the people closest to him pay the highest price. We don’t want excuses when others kill us. We shouldn’t make excuses when Black men kill Black women either. Accountability must be consistent. Protection must be intentional. Healing must be a priority. I grieve for Cerina, her children, and everyone who loved her. And I want Black men to hear this plainly: If you harm a woman, that is not manhood. Get help before you become harm.

Louisiana ranks near the bottom in damn near everything that matters — economy, crime, education, healthcare, infrastructure — but instead of fixing that, they’re focused on taking power from a majority Black community in New Orleans. This bill to remove the Clerk of Criminal Court isn’t about reform. It’s about control. You can’t say you believe in local control and then override local voters when you don’t like who they elected. I said it plain: this is reconstructionist, and it’s racist. You use the government as a job farm building jails in your to employ your constituents and then talk efficiency and eliminate jobs in Black communities. You’re failing your voters and some of them are starting to see the light. Every vote you make reflects your moral character. History will remember. So will the voters. Share if you care 🦾

The taxpayers who live in North Baton Rouge deserve the same level of investment as places like Central, Zachary, and midtown Baton Rouge. But too often, the story told about North Baton Rouge is different. Local media shapes perception—and perception impacts investment. The way reporters cover North versus other parts of Baton Rouge does real harm to our progress. At the same time, a lack of serious coordination from elected officials—on both sides—continues to hold this community back. And we have to be honest: continuing to elect people who aren’t aggressive on the issues that impact our quality of life only deepens the problem. Let’s also not ignore reality. Central is about 70% white. North Baton Rouge is about 85% Black. That contrast matters in how resources flow and how priorities are set. And to be clear—I named those specific communities because the data backs it up. Higher incomes, lower crime, and higher homeownership rates all support sustained retail and economic development. That doesn’t mean North Baton Rouge can’t. It means we haven’t made the investments necessary for it to. Improving the quality of life in North Baton Rouge doesn’t just benefit one part of the parish—it makes all of East Baton Rouge stronger. Share if you care 🦾

I’m glad we caught this on film. Still trying to figure out why security at the Mall of Louisiana felt the need to call the police on us for filming. Sgt. Aimee was respectful, but told us we couldn’t use the sidewalk. Thankfully, a sister who stopped to watch us doubled back and pointed out the BREC park connected to the same lot. We moved to the sidewalk there and finished the job. Reporters pull up to that mall all the time and film without issue. But a group of Black men filming? That required a police response. Mall security should be focused on keeping people safe — not this. Can’t wait for for what we are working on to drop… Share if you care 🦾

Calvin Duncan (@calvin4clerk) spent 28 years in prison for a crime he didn’t commit. He was exonerated. Then elected by the people of New Orleans. Now—before he can even be sworn in—a white senator is trying to eliminate the office he won. 38,000 votes… erased. Call it what it is: racist. This ain’t new. It’s Reconstruction. Share if you care 🦾
