Rookie in his 2nd game of his career in a short week. There is not much data to work with. But we have our eyes. Putting on the tape, this dude can fly and he knows how to get open down the field. It seems that Golden is primarily being used as an X-receiver. For those that don’t know what that is, think of it as the guy that lines up furthest from the snap, and runs the routes that develop deeper (go routes straight up the field, post routes that break after the line of scrimmage, etc etc). He is playing a similar role to what Christian Watson (who is injured for now) did for the Packers last season. Washington blitzed at the 3rd highest rate in the NFL last season (per FTN). The reason this is important is because against blitz, Watson led the team in YPRR vs Blitz and was 2nd among all NFL WRs in YPRR vs Blitz when lining up on the outside. So if Golden is filling the similar role… we should see similar results. In Week 1, we only saw 14 routes. However, Love also only had 22 pass attempts as the Packers were in a winning game script from start to finish. We should see that come up here. I think this is very likely a spot where we either see 1 catch for 10 yards or 4 catches for 55 yards. I’m taking the alt 40+ because of this. While I like the idea of laddering up more, it is still a rookie in his 2nd career game which is also his first short week and I don’t want to get to bullish, even though in similar circumstances on a normal Sunday matchup, I probably would go higher.
