Think of contemporary CN like a nesting doll, what is “white” is “American” and what is “American” becomes “Christian” — all the politics of dominion and retribution flow from the anxieties inherent to maintaining this specific social order. This CN can be overt or covert.

“Christians participating in politics” is not Christian nationalism. “Christian nationalism” is the confusion of church with state by collapsing ethnic identity into national-partisan identity as the ideological content for “Christian faith.”
