@deerhoof That might be hyperacusis, where hearing damage makes regular noise uncomfortable. As a musician with hearing loss, I've become a huge advocate of good quality earplugs. They really don't effect the sound quality much. Also I LOVE DEERHOOF SO MUCH

people always ask how i can play without earplugs but by far the loudest thing in my life is doing the dishes so clanky
