its always a surreal experience reading the comments to posts like these. when you watch enough anime and hang around enough parts of the community, nothing feels underexposed anymore. i feel like i never hear the end of some shows that have under 10k members on mal lmao

Made this monster last night. Basically my top 3 Anime of the Year for every year since 1980, at least so far (Yes Dead Dead DeDeDe Destruction is already my AotY after 1 Episode, at least for now. It's fluid!) Really need to watch more from 1980 and 1981..

@Torgan616 @charulia_ @HkonMk A person's 3x3 isn't going to tell you anything outside of their top 9 shows and maybe some shallow patterns you could take like reoccurring studios or staff. In reality, taste isn't so simple it can be reflected with just a list of shows. That line of thinking is a mistake.

@charulia_ @HkonMk Honestly though, the worst thing a ranker can do is have their top anime just be all of the most acclaimed works with no real connective tissue. Like I want a person's 3x3 to tell me something about their values and tastes.

@FoolPlanet Speaking of Shinji being 14, remember when Misato attempts to "comfort" Shinji with her body after Rei II dies and he rejects her? What a weird reaction to have for someone only using women. Stop spreading this "Shinji is an angry incel" misinformation.

@FoolPlanet This is how Shinji reacted to finding out Misato had sex with Kaji in episode 8. He is not "shocked" she's sleeping with someone not him in EoE, he's disgusted and disappointed because he is 14 years old and Misato is the closest thing he's had as a mother.

This and exactly this. Eva is one of the best mainstream shows that puts a direct spotlight on how otaku culture sexualizes female characters and sees them as just cardboard cutouts for them to project their fantasies on to, while in real life women are just normal human-

@FoolPlanet Shinji doesn't kill Asuka, that scene isn't even reality. It's him having a mental breakdown after everyone he cared about has died, including Asuka, and him lashing out at the parts of himself he sees in Asuka as he's searching for a reason for why he should keep living.

Done? He kills her. Because she can’t be useful to him anymore, now that she expressed her humanity and her opinion. It’s a reflection of how otakus treat female characters and how generally men view and treat women. Shinji doesn’t care about Asuka, he doesn’t care about-

This is all basically just a stream of consciousness acting as my first impressions, so none of it is fully formed and fleshed out yet. I'm looking forward to seeing more of what commentary this show has to offer and potentially fleshing out these ideas even more.

This was a funny moment that can be read a few different ways. Obviously the surface reading being poking fun at chuuni kids, but could also be taking jabs at those who give these characters their edgy names for either being edgy themselves or just out of touch all together.
