A gaudily colored dress suit doesn’t really serve a good purpose and just looks like something a rapper would wear to look “fancy” at a seafood restaurant with his paramour The suit of this cut fulfills a specific purpose-aesthetic formality after the decline of morning dress-that remains best served by dark blue with very thin pinstripes Color certainly has a place, but is best served by tweeds and cords in the country during the hunting months, or fun silk jackets, pastel pants, pastel polos under blue blazers, pastel shirts with linen suits, and so on during the warm months The other thing is that a smoking jacket can look nice in a fun color, but you have to really be able to pull it off, and avoid faux while wearing it. @flyingmonk_lg I think there’s a certain panache to it, but it’s definitely a more out there look inspired by gilded/edwardian styles

@DripChud Can't recall the last time I saw someone wearing a suit or jacket with piping. Other than a video of a guy's stroller jacket, which had some subtle black satin piping on the collar.

Waiting for one of these guys to bring back the lightweight double-breasted jacket, to wear with light pants. It was fairly popular in the early 20th c. in warm climates as a cooler alternative to the three-piece. Semi-formal wear should be more interesting and pleasant to wear.

One of my favorite pieces of taxidermy of all time, been going to see it since I was 5 years old at the Carnegie Museum, and it was blocked off and stored away because it was “problematic.” Rumor is it’s been destroyed. Heartbreaking stuff.
