The @FaceToFaceGames Montreal modern event is going to be an 80 or so person tournament where top 8 get like 6 packs per player on average. I was hyped for the event but I don’t think I have that in me. 6$ entry is nice for some but I need some STAKES.

@MTGKelly Timing is weird - this season you get most of the entry back just with the foil stirrings right. So 50$ or so would have been fine. You can’t control the promos. I also think the ticket system is a bit of a deterrent. It makes prizing value really hard to gauge to outsiders.

@WingWingMTG I think i prob ran good a bit but i remember echo and super skrull doing a lot of work. Im sure i ran back and lost some spots where my deck was amazing too.

Ill give them the credit for thinking it might see play in standard or something but I went 4-3 in the limited championship qualifier and all 3 of my losses were to this card (one of my opp had 2) and it was the least fun ive had in limited maybe ever.

@CallMeBoostin I mean high end promos given out at events like this in general. In time as more inventory enters the market overall the appetite for more of these tends to slow down a bit.

@DroodHT But more aren’t coming to market? This was the last of 9 available as the PG/OGN Legends are phased out of the “Best Of” series now to make room for the set 4 legends.
Tbf I love this still and think it gives people different options based on what they want to compete for.

I think its pretty great. Theyre creating a more varied meta and when the price of these eventually comes down as more enter the market hardcore grinders will adjust their goals.
Its important to note that RQs are pretty much mtg GPs. PTs and Worlds will be different i suspect.

Maybe I’m too PT brained but I’m seeing competitive players say they made a mistake trying to win the tournament bc the prize support pales in comparison to what someone will pay for the Ahri. This kind of motivation is much less sustainable as a long term OP model.
