This weekend is the last GP of my 37th season of running away with the circus 😅 Photo is end of my first season, Goiania, Brazil, September 1988. Usual late Sunday night. Press room was above the pits and had no roof. My first laptop, a Tandy 200: 8-line LCD display, ran on 4 AA batteries, printed onto rolls of heat sensitive paper, which I fed into fax machines. Things were a bit, er, different. I wasn’t even supposed to be at Goiania. MCN weren’t going to send me because the championship had already been decided, so I said I’d go holiday, because I’d heard how wild Goiania had been in ’87. And, man, the city was wild. No idea how any racing got done. Factory riders getting in at 4am – morning practice with raging hangovers 😎

If Starmer’s serious about “rooting out 14 years of Tory rot”, it’ll take more than new management - the country is crying out for a new mindset too. For inspiration & hope. The last thing we need is more austerity - policies like wealth taxes mean we *can* invest in our future

So, it appears Corbyn got significantly more votes in the ‘biggest catastrophe ever’ election in 2019 than Starmer has in the ‘greatest result ever’. Interesting.

@sheepassisted The cynic in me says they don't give a shit when they won so many seats. I think the only thing that will keep them in power next time will be to not do a god awful job, and keep repeating that we're not rejoining the EU. As so many are convinced they're gonna take us back in.

@Drutt I want to believe the four independents they lost to on the back of their Gaza/Palestine rhetoric has resonated somewhere and they'll be looking into that. We'll see. Fingers crossed for now at least.

After 50 years the Tories have finally lost the constituency I live in. Didn't get who I voted for (not surprised), but at least that rabble of shit are gone.

@sheepassisted God I hope so. Counting on people seeing through Farage when the lazy fuck fails to turn up to Parliament, or his constituency every Friday. Labour need to do a lot of work to try to roll back the racist rhetoric, but not sure they have it in them.

@Drutt I'm not entirely convinced they'll exist in five years time. Much the same way as the BNP and UKIP, I (have to) believe they'll self-immolate before that. And a lot of their voter share was protest voting. I do agree, the 98 second places was alarming af though.

@sheepassisted Mine was always a 1 horse race, Tories got double or triple the votes of the next party, so I was hopeful but not entirely convinced they'd lose even now. Fucking scary how many places had Reform in 2nd, not looking forward to 5 years time.

@Drutt Tbh, on the strength of the manifesto, I'd have preferred Lib Dem or Green. But the margins here were polling fairly tight (actually turned out to be about 4500; thanks Reform!) so I couldn't risk it either. It's always a two horse race and it's not usually even close.

@sheepassisted I think this is also the first time the area have been anything other than Tory or Unionist since it was created in 1895. But I went with the 1974 new boundary. Do wonder if Grayling hadn't stood down we would still be blue tho.

@Drutt Samesies. Though I did get who I voted for, which is - to some extent - tactical. But for, I think, the first time in history, this constituency went red and I'm not mad at it. Mr Baroness Dido Harding out on his arse. Hurrah!
