@Condomgirl_ Ah, omo. You Nigerians are embarrassing me. She's black, she lives in a predominantly Black land, and she went to have a white baby? Like, what does that tell you exactly? Una just dey lie to una selves sha

I don’t understand why people are judging her. She has every right to choose the kind of donor she wants and decide how she wants her baby to look. Just like a woman can decide whether or not to have children, she should also have the freedom to make decisions concerning her body and her baby without constant criticism. If people truly believe looks don’t matter, then why do most people choose partners they are physically attracted to? At the end of the day, everyone has preferences. Wanting certain features for your child does not automatically mean low self-esteem. People should be allowed to make personal choices without being constantly judged. Let women make their choices in peace.

@esther_stan I think TTC is only applied when they’ve been trying for over a year because medically, on an average, it takes 6-12 months for young healthy couples to conceive. And 12 - 24 months for 35+

I am discussing the tweet actually and telling you why you may feel that way and why your feelings shouldn't supersede the message. I am basically explaining what is happening right now. The message has a theme on it's own. We should judge it base on that. Yet, it is still possible for us to see a single message very differently. That is our interpretation. That is not inherently wrong. What is wrong is that you implying that the way you see it supersedes the message in the text itself. You can have a different view but you should not begin to presume and then act on that presumption that your view is what the writer meant. NO! The message has a life on it's own. And it was clear; poor marital choices are an accident waiting to happen. So, who is to blame becomes less relevant against the backdrop of this simple message. If you decide to gear towards another view, it is well within your right. You insisting that your view is the way the writer intends is were you begin to contravene all laws of literary interpretations.

Are you people really daft, or u just want to see how it feels to get schooled by king Berry? “The worse mistake you can ever make in life is marrying the wrong person” How does that suggest I’m blaming the woman? No wonder, developed countries will continue requesting IELTS from us, they see comments like these and conclude, Nigerians are slow.

She called the police due to DV. You’re not condemning the man’s actions but somehow making the wife’s actions of protecting herself and her unborn child the problem? WTF did I just read?

@paris_wisdom @kingberrykarter Visa issues, broken marriage, her difficult future, than on the alleged abuse itself. So even by your own framework, the weighting of the message still leans sympathy in a particular direction (the husband’s). It was nice having this discourse with you 🤝

@paris_wisdom @kingberrykarter emotional conclusion to leave readers with. Those choices influence perception intentionally or unintentionally. Also, your“formalism” argument weakens your position because if we analyze the text “on its own,” the text still spends far more time on the husband losing his job,

@godabeg752 @kingberrykarter You want to call me slow when you can’t even decipher the undertone and how that tweet focuses more on the consequences of her reporting the husband than it does on the consequences of the abuse itself? Why do I even bother when lots of you have the IQ of a centipede

@paris_wisdom @kingberrykarter by literal wording. If I spend 90% of a story discussing the negative consequences of someone reporting abuse; job loss, visa issues, broken marriage and barely address the abuse itself, readers are naturally going to perceive sympathy leaning one way.

@paris_wisdom @kingberrykarter That already assigns shared responsibility. If one partner is allegedly abusive, framing it as mutual self-destruction caused by poor choices softens accountability for the abuse itself. You’re also pretending tone and framing don’t exist. Communication is not judged only..

Your post starts with a factual situation, but the framing gradually shifts the emotional weight onto the consequences for the husband and the marriage rather than the alleged domestic violence itself. There is an undertone of “Look what happened after she involved the police.”
