This is a big issue being raised by my constituents, especially in Dublin 12 These appointments are crucial and time sensitive, the Government must address the shortage of public health nurses

It is disgraceful that parents across many parts of the country have had appointments for their babies and children suspended due to a national shortage of public health nurses. Instead, they have been provided with links to a HSE booklet offering guidance on pregnancy, birth and early childhood. This is really concerning, as these checks are crucial in identifying any medical issues or developmental delays that could benefit from early intervention. Parents who may be worried that their child is not reaching certain milestones will continue to be left in limbo if the recruitment crisis in public health nursing is not immediately addressed. Figures released to the Social Democrats last August showed that there were 86 less public health nurses than at the end of 2020 – a six per cent decrease. The 2018 Health Service Capacity Review found there would be a 46 per cent increase in demand for public health nurse appointments by 2031. Yet, instead of scaling up, the numbers in this critical area are reducing. I raised this issue directly with the Taoiseach and the Minister for Health in the Dáil today.

We welcome the reduction of speed limits on rural roads but I will continue to work with @calmcrumlinroad campaign to see this happen in our cities too We need to ensure our kids are safe to walk to school, that people are safe to cycle and that motorists are safe while driving!

Renters need a rent freeze not the removal of the rent caps with no protection. Not once in the last ten years have Fianna Fáil or Fine Gael treated the housing crisis like the emergency it is and why would they? It is their policies that are causing this crisis. @SocDems

It is shocking that Ireland is 104th in the global rankings for female representation in parliament. But should it really be surprising given the government parties’ attitude to promoting women? Just 3 women were appointed to cabinet and just 6 as junior ministers. Shameful
