Both Switzerland and Norway have wealth taxes. They haven't 'destroyed liberty', 'disincentivised saving', 'killed entrepreneurialism' or even forced the rich to leave those countries.

Thames Water has just increased bonus payouts for "key management personnel" from £2.8 million to £4.1 million – despite being £18.5 billion in debt and causing several category 1 pollution incidents. Thames bypassed Ofwat's bonus ban, which ONLY targets chief executives and finance managers, by awarding the bulk of the £4.1 million to other executive team and board members. We were told privatisation would bring efficiency and lower costs – instead we got shitty rivers and some of the highest bills for water in the world.

@AmeliaRocket1 @LindaPears87262 I remember one from Cheshire who had produced PPE for decades asking for the govt to contact them on morning TV. Gove was on and said he wanted their number. They weren't contacted all week and their kit went to the US!!😖😖😖

@AmeliaRocket1 Most of these were UK companies. In the end, they exported abroad, while we imported a substandard kit via middlemen/women who did dodgy deals. Not only the cost, but the environmental damage caused by transportation and waste.

@AmeliaRocket1 @ProustM I worked in management with one of the top 10 worldwide freight forwarders. We (along with others) offered our services to the procurement team. Charter planes, containers, etc. None of us got a sniff. All given to one forwarder… with close connections to the local Tory MP.

@TomBrown I was in hospital during the first lockdown and watched staff open out of date boxes and wearing broken face masks. These people should be in prison for manslaughter.

@AmeliaRocket1 We had millions of N95 and surgical masks on hand, thousands of bottles of hand sanitiser, disposable aprons, shields... willing to be sold at cost to the NHS. I lost count of how many times we tried. They repeatedly told us they weren't interested.

Strange that we have a worldwide supplier of excellent quality PPE up the road in Hull who contacted the government multiple times with the offer of millions of items of PPE but never got a call back and eventually supplied the Scottish government
