@Lskywalker45221 @CFBwSam Exactly. People forgetting Chip Kelly took that team to being a field goal away from being national champions with a roster that was vast majority 3 star guys. Not much has actually changed since those days in the ability to compete. It’s just an excuse for people.

@DuckFromOC @CFBwSam Yes. Lost in all of this is elite coaching. I know it’s all tied together and that Cignetti is an outlier, but at the end of the day, good coaching hires have always been just as important as money. Look at Chip Kelly, Kalen Deboer, etc.

My guess is that within 5 years, the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC, and SEC will start complaining about how they can't keep up with Oregon, Texas Tech, Miami, and Texas. 5 years after that, 1-4 of those teams, and maybe a handful of others (I can see more Big Ten schools making this group), are so far away from the rest of the sport that you get top-heavy records every year like you did in 2023 and the smaller teams with fewer resources will have a successful season if they simply beat one of the top teams or beat all the teams they "should" beat.

Right now, we do have more parity than ever in CFB, and that will continue for a few more years. However, eventually, teams will start to price out others. Change in the NIL landscape and CFB will occur when one team has so much money that they have close to the depth of the Ohio State and Alabama teams in the 2010s, and they are an unstoppable force. Then, especially if this team is not a traditional power, like Texas Tech, everyone will team up to provide legislation to fully professionalize CFB.
