Today the Florida legislature passed the Data Center bill (HB 1007/SB 484). We want to express our appreciation to lawmakers for achieving an outcome that fosters growth while safeguarding our customers.

While the Florida Lineman’s Rodeo is a fun, family-friendly event, @DukeEnergy_FL lineworkers take it very seriously. Here a team is going over their scores with a judge.

The Florida Lineman’s Rodeo allows our lineworkers to sharpen the skills they use to keep the power flowing for our customers 365 days a year.

It’s a family affair! Michelle has worked for @DukeEnergy_FL for 29 years, and her son, Richard, is competing today as an apprentice — his fourth and final year before officially becoming a lineman. #FLLinemansRodeo

This apprentice mystery event involves installing bird diverters on a powerline - helping birds avoid coming in contact with lines and ultimately reducing power outages for customers. Important to know these lines are not energized. They’re used to safely train line techs.

Judges have years of experience that allow them to score competitors based on speed, precision and safety. #FLLinemansRodeo

The competition at the @DukeEnergy_FL Lineman’s Rodeo includes “mystery” events. Competitors don’t know what to expect until they arrive today and use their experience, skills and knowledge to get through some tough tests.

This is the Hurtman Rescue. Safety is the top priority for our lineworkers, and while this challenge involves dummies and de-energized lines, they’re practicing real-world skills that can make all the difference in the field.

At the @DukeEnergy_FL apprentices and journeyman teams travel from across Florida to compete in a hurtman rescue, timed climbs and mystery competitions which test safety, agility and precision skills.
