I am deeply disappointed by the recent comments made by former Taoiseach Bertie Ahern regarding immigrants in Ireland. To hear immigrants being singled out and unfairly blamed by a former Taoiseach and serving member of the Council of State is deeply disturbing. Such remarks reflect a worrying lack of understanding and risk undermining the values of respect and inclusion that Irish society stands for. While it is important to discuss the challenges facing Ireland openly and honestly, we must avoid rhetoric that scapegoats entire communities. Immigrants across Ireland contribute positively every day through their work, service, and commitment to this country. I would respectfully urge Mr Ahern to reflect carefully on the impact such comments can have on community relations and social cohesion. Ireland is strongest when it leads with fairness, dignity, and mutual respect.

For years we have been taught never to question what a woman was wearing when she was sexually harassed or assaulted. Islamic modesty culture places the burden of not ‘tempting’ men entirely on women and even young girls. This attitude is not compatible with Irish culture.

While in Ireland, individuals are free to practice their faith, many traditional Islamic teachings and practices towards women, including unequal inheritance, polygamy, child marriage, guardianship systems, and restrictions on women’s dress and autonomy, fall short of the full equality Irish women have fought for. Proudly Irish means upholding the dignity, safety and equality of women. Muslim Women who come to Ireland should not be wearing the veil or the abaya or niqab. That is not Irish.

I notice that the government response the past few months to the housing crisis is to keep pointing to social housing projects they've broken ground on. It's not social houses that are needed - it's affordable housing on the private market for regular people. And commandeering of private stock for social houses has only made it more expensive for people like you to buy a house while others get it for free. I don't know how Irish people aren't up in arms at the fact that in most new estates now the state will buy up and hand out - for free or next to it - houses for immigrants and work-shy, while hard working people have to buy theirs. Same address, same life quality. One pays, one doesn't. Irish people are too docile.

Douglas Murray calmly but precisely dismantles BBC Newsnight’s Nick Watt who challenges him on calling for “less Islam” in Britain due to the threat of Islamic extremism.
BBC: “Surely ‘less Islam’ means less Muslims? Less Sajid Javid, less Sadiq Khan… anyone who’s a Muslim?”
Murray: “It would also mean less people like the Abedi family. Wouldn’t it?”
BBC: “Yes, less extremists, but you’re talking about less Islam - that is Muslim people.”
Murray (calmly and bluntly): “Just bear with me, because I know better than you what I think.”
He continues: “This country has had a wildly stupid and lax immigration policy for decades. We allowed in people like the Abedi family, a family of jihadists. One of their sons, Salman Abedi, aged 22, killed 22 young girls at the Manchester Arena with a suicide bomb. Why were the Abedi family even here?”
“Jihadist extremism comes from Islam. If even 1%, 5%, or 15% of Muslims follow that strain, you’ve got a hell of a problem.
The more people you have from a faith that hasn’t solved the extremism in its midst, the more extremism you will have.”
“You don’t get this from Catholics, Methodists, Quakers or Anglicans.”
When the presenter tried to interrupt and accused him of stereotyping, Murray hit back: “Of course it’s not stereotyping! This is a dated conversation. Nobody is as slow in learning as the British media and political class on this issue.”
“Why do we have thousands of people marching through British cities every weekend supporting death cults that would murder Jews and the rest of us? That’s the question you and Newsnight should be answering.”
