The contest around free speech in the UK is, in part, a consequence of Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter. Under his ownership, X is hopelessly regulated. Consequently loads of bigoted hate has gushed forth. Social media isn’t outside the law and so society is trying to work out how to handle posts and their consequences.
