55,000 people showed up for Diljit Dosanjh’s Aura concert April 23rd ~ filling up BC Place Stadium (one of my favorite singers BTW)🎤 55,000 nurses in BC are preparing for potential strike action. Nurses who care for others while their own care diminishes 🏥 Same number. Very different reasons. One brings celebration. The other signals a system under strain. Let that sink in. #Nurses #Healthcare #BC #StaffingCrisis #RatiosSaveLives #BCNurses #BCNU

Last Sunday, I had the opportunity to attend and join many others in recognizing the newly elected President of Cricket Canada. A big congratulations to Arvinder Khosa on this well-deserved leadership role. Wishing you continued success ahead. It was also great to see MLA Peter Milobar at the event and come together in support of this milestone. Sport plays a vital role in Canada, bringing communities together and inspiring the next generation. 🏏🇨🇦 Thank you to Jaswinder Singh Dilawari for the kind invitation. It was a pleasure connecting with everyone in attendance.

In light of recent news involving someone known to many in our community, I know many are feeling shocked and have mixed emotions. Moments like this remind us that life is not always simple. We are all accountable for our actions, and at the same time, none of us are perfect. Accountability is not about judgment; it is about responsibility, growth, and integrity. What matters is that we continue to stand for truth, uphold accountability, and lead with compassion, all at once. In Sikhi, we are taught to stand against injustice, but also to lead with understanding, humility, and seva. We can hold space for both responsibility and compassion, because that is what makes us human. Waheguru knows all.

A major community celebration is happening in Surrey this weekend! One of the largest Vaisakhi celebrations outside India takes place on Saturday, April 18. Vaisakhi is one of the holiest days in the Sikh calendar and recognizes the creation of the Khalsa.

🌼 Happy Vaisakhi & Khalsa Sajna Divas 🌼 Today we celebrate not only the harvest and new beginnings, but the birth of the Khalsa, a moment in history that stands for courage, equality, and unwavering faith. Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa to rise against injustice, to protect the vulnerable, and to live with truth, humility, and fearless compassion. As a Registered Nurse and community advocate, these values deeply resonate with me. Whether in healthcare or in our communities, we are called to stand up, to serve, and to be a voice for those who need it most. Vaisakhi reminds us that real leadership is rooted in seva, integrity, and collective upliftment. May this day bring strength, clarity, and renewed purpose to continue walking a path of service and truth. ✨ Sarbat da bhala ~ welfare for all ✨ #Vaisakhi #KhalsaSajnaDivas #Seva #Leadership #Community #Oneness

Honoured to volunteer with BC Nurses’ Union (BCNU) yesterday at the Vaisakhi Nagar Kirtan in Vancouver this year 🙏 As a Registered Nurse, it was meaningful to provide blood pressure checks, connect with community members, and be present in service during such an important celebration. Vaisakhi marks the formation of the Khalsa, initiated by Guru Gobind Singh Ji, a reminder of standing up against oppression, supporting those who are vulnerable, and living with compassion, courage, and humility. These values deeply align with our role in healthcare. As nurses, we advocate every day, for our patients, for safe care, and for a stronger healthcare system. At this time, that also means continuing to push for safe nurse-patient ratios. Because we know: Ratios save lives. It was wonderful to have @drpbhurji (Dr. Pargat Singh Bhurji) come by to meet the nurses this year. As a Paediatrician and valued community member, he understands the current healthcare needs Grateful to serve, both in community and in care 💎 @BCNursesUnion

It was another well-organized and impactful gala by @movingforwardfs, last evening. Moving Forward is a non-profit organization providing accessible, low-cost short-term counselling and affordable long-term support to individuals across British Columbia, and even to those across Canada who are unable to access services locally. Last evening was a powerful reminder of the real impact this organization continues to create. Hearing stories like that of keynote speaker Joe Roberts, who overcame homelessness, was deeply inspiring. His journey, and the role that one supportive individual played in his life, highlights something important, sometimes it truly takes just one person to help change the course of someone’s life. In a world, where gaps can exist within healthcare, education, and other systems, combined with personal, family, or financial challenges; many individuals can find themselves struggling. This can lead to mental health challenges, grief, homelessness, or other difficult paths. Organizations like Moving Forward Family Services play a critical role in bridging these gaps and supporting individuals when they need it most. Having known Gary Thandi over the past decade, and having had the opportunity to collaborate with him and the Moving Forward team on various community initiatives, it continues to be an honour to witness and support the work they do. Such important work for our communities. 🙏

Sikh Heritage Month in Canada 🇨🇦🙏 is incomplete without remembering the beautiful cross-cultural friendship between young Rapindar Singh and Dougherty Krauser in 1950s Ottawa. Two kids sharing a pop, bridging communities — a timeless symbol of unity, respect, and early Sikh-Canadian bonds. #canada #usa Let’s celebrate these stories that built our shared history! #SikhHeritageMonth #SikhInCanada #ChardiKala

As we approach Vaisakhi, we’re once again confronted with the same misconceptions year after year. Vaisakhi is not simply a harvest festival. It is not the Sikh New Year. And Bhangra is not a Sikh religious dance. Vaisakhi marks the founding of the Khalsa in 1699 by Guru Gobind Singh, a defining moment in Sikh history that established a distinct identity rooted in equality, courage, and justice. This is more than a celebration - it’s a reminder of who we are and what we stand for. Share this to challenge misinformation and uplift the truth.

Important conversations like this matter deeply in our community. This documentary initiative was originally developed through One Voice Canada to bring awareness to the lived experiences and safety challenges faced by international students. It’s encouraging to see continued community engagement on this topic. We look forward to further expanding this work through structured platforms and meaningful collaborations moving forward.
