‘We peal in muffled sadness, For loved ones laid to rest’. Fully-muffled ringing with the tenor open at backstroke @durhamcathedral for HM Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral this morning. Bells were rung at towers across Durham.

Bellringing for Evensong @durhamcathedral today was fully muffled with the tenor open at backstroke in memory of HM The Queen.

We're privileged to have access to views of the Cathedral most people never see. The huge trap door in the floor of the ringing chamber has a couple of spy holes to the chancel crossing, so we can see where the wedding party are up to when processing out. Moons not often seen!

A team of bell ringers has, this afternoon, returned to Durham Cathedral for the first time since March 2020.
