#DurlstonYr11’s Triple Biologists conducted an experiment on the effect of temperature on milk decay, using a lipase enzyme. Lots of ideas from previous topics and from their Chemistry learning came together here and they got super valid results! #DurlstonBiology 🌡️🥛

Last week in #DurlstonY7 science we looked at acids, alkalis and the pH scale 🌈 👍🏻

#DurlstonYr10 investigated how leaves store glucose made from photosynthesis as starch. To observe the starch, they used ethanol to remove the green chlorophyll from their leaves and added iodine. Great results and practical skills demonstration all round! #DurlstonBiology 🌿🧪

#Y6Durlston have had an experiment running for a few days - a plant sitting in bright light, photosynthesising. The leaves were covered with different shapes, then tested for starch today, using a complex process. A black colour shows the presence of starch! 👍🏻😎

#DurlstonYr8’s new Biology topic on body systems had its first practical today - dissecting chicken wings! The pupils were superb at identifying the different bones and muscles that work together with ligaments and tendons to bring about movement in the limbs 💪 #DurlstonScience

#DurlstonY6 have continued their work on cells, looking at the guard cells either side of the stomata on the underside of leaves. These are imprints of the cells, taken using nail varnish!

Y6 microscopy took an alternative route this morning, heading to the pond to collect samples to inspect at high magnification… pictured is the beautifully elegant tail of a very tiny damselfly larva…

Y6 have been learning about the adaptations and functions of specialised cells… and then making models and evaluating them! #science #durlston

Construction club took a different tack this week and we looked at how to give an outboard engine a basic service. We worked out how to use a socket set, do simple checks and learnt the basics of how it works 🔧🪛 🚤 @DurlstonSchool
