Calgary is getting an outrageous 8.1% property tax increase.
The City of Calgary portion increased by 1.2%.
The Provincial portion of the tax increased by 19.8% for residential & 8.8% for non-residential.
Absolutely disgusting.
The UCP needs to cut that asap.

Property tax is a crushing wealth tax on middle class homeowners used to pay for a vast administrative apparatus that tries and fails to teach future homicide suspects how to do calculus, at dangerous schools to which these taxpayers don’t send their kids if they can avoid it
The “services” could be paid for by a yearly assessment, in the case of things like police and firefighters, a specific tax on gas/vehicle registration/toll on entering the state in the case of the roads, and public schooling as currently constituted needs to be seriously reconsidered.
Teaching the bright members of every class and helping them flourish is not that expensive, and has quite a good return. Pouring unending resources into the gaping maw of a bureaucratic class that warehouses youthful gangsters and makes it impossible for the bright to learn is expensive, and has a negative return

I’m very confused about the number of people who think “property tax” is a sales tax on you home rather than taxes to pay for public services you use every day. “I paid off my home why do i still pay property taxes?!?!?” Oh, did you also stop using the roads and libraries and sidewalks and parks? The entire reason the Vaccine Injury Support Program (VISP) was independent was to ensure that the harmer (government) couldn't interfere with the harmed (vax injured).

I am writing to you today with this thought in mind. I felt disappointed and concerned when I see broad labels, such as 'separatist', used to describe supporters of an Independent Alberta, because it feels dehumanizing to me and seems to contradict the ANDP's policy on harassment.
I would appreciate it if we could commit to using people-first language, such as 'people who support an independent Alberta,' so that we can maintain the dignity of all groups in our public discourse.
