So why couldn’t the Boys State Basketball tournament be this week at St Thomas or other metro colleges?

@mnbuckets you might know, do other states have a success multiplier or some other factor for private schools? Time for MSHSL to add a private school class or two

@mnbuckets I thought going in CMCS would be the 2. They got hosed. SOS and head to head doesn’t matter apparently.

State GBB commentary about seeds? Not much to say, I think AAA got it correct. AA & AAAA are fine. I think if I had to find a "snub" I'd say it would be CMCS as a 6 in A.

@Huckstar12 @TweetsbyCoachP From my experiences lose most of them in middle school. I agree with season length. I’d add poor coaching, bad practices at youth and MS levels (lack of coach training). Kids don’t get better and in basketball you get exposed if you’re not skilled. That = not fun.

Why do you believe we are seeing such a steep decline in girls high school basketball participation? Non-refutable data from the NFHS says that participation has dropped 21% over the last 25 years. But why? What is your take on the why when the highest levels of the sport have never been more popular.

Dear young athletes- keep this photo saved to your phone and show the next person who says you have to focus on one sport in HS. The amount of kids I’ve heard say “I can’t risk getting hurt” or “my coach won’t let me” drives me crazy. You get one shot to be a HS athlete. @YouthInc

@scorefeedsteve I agree. Don’t see that happening as MSHSL is more concerned about statewide representation than getting the best 8 teams.

@Dustin_Wright5 The fact that we get to 8 & they split it to North & South is too bad. It would be good to reseed 1-8. Probably not feasible for FB though

Not sure how others feel about MSHSL state football playoff seeds. I get the purpose but is strength of schedule looked at or just record? In AA south you might have the 2 best teams (JCC and Cal) playing right away. Stick WEM in Section 1 and they don’t get a home game.

@scorefeedsteve I do get that. But I also think Chatfield, Triton, Lourdes, Cal all beat WEM by at least 2 TD’s if they play. We will never know though so it doesn’t matter ha

@Dustin_Wright5 WEM's SOS is 4th in their class via Scorefeed apps ratings points(which I doubt are looked at). Cal's losses to R-P and Triton hurt them even though they were early. But currently, you might have the best 2 playing each other I agree.

High school coaches often say their freshmen don’t understand defense. A big reason: youth programs lean on zone. I’m not entirely anti-zone — but most youth zones lack an understanding on rotations, ball pressure, and defensive fundamentals. They end up playing zone because it’s easier…and players pay the price later. If your team struggles defensively, you don’t need to play man and lose every game by 40 — but make time to teach the basics: Guard the ball. Help. Rotate. Close out. If we want better defenders in high school, we have to teach defense earlier.

Parents; cheer for the TEAM. Not just your kid. When you do that, you highlight your selfishness. And it’s so gross. Thanks, from a coach that mistakenly sat in the parents section.

A reminder for youth basketball coaches starting their season: Stop wasting so much time putting in set plays - most of them don’t work anyway. Teach your players how to space the floor and recognize opportunities to create advantages. That’s what actually translates to games.
