5/ 🌏 Conservation takeaway: Successful large carnivore recovery requires more than predator protection, it depends on robust prey populations and intact ecological networks, reinforcing the need for ecosystem-level conservation planning in reintroduction landscapes.

4/ We also detected species-specific ecological linkages, suggesting complex community structuring among large carnivores and their prey, with environmental drivers influencing these interactions. @IBCA_official @IUCNssc @UBC

Engaging presentation by Ankita Sharma on Sacred paths and shared spaces: Understanding Human-Wildlife interactions in Tirupati-Tirumala pilgrimage landscape. Sacred paths, shared spaces Millions of pilgrims walk Tirumala’s forested trails - also home to leopards, bears & deer. Our study maps hotspots, prey overlap & conflict risks, offering strategies for safer coexistence. #HumanWildlifeConflict #Conservation @kramesh95 @balajivb02 @ankitas64054260 @VijayM85508 @moefcc @wii_india @SACONCoimbatore @GobindsagarBha1 @RuchiBadola2 #IARS2025

Our new publication in Nature - Scientific Reports on Tigers in their New Territory based on long-term data from Panna Tiger Reserve, Central India highlights that spatial interaction largely depends on home-range shape and size, and does not necessarily affect dynamic interaction. Female siblings showed philopatry and preferred to move jointly before establishing their own territories. Female tigers females exhibited clear and consistent mate selection with increasing availability of males and hence founder populations for reintroduction should include adequate mate choices @wii_india @ntca_india @moefcc @PannaTigerResrv @Unitedfortigers @IBCA_official @vrtiwari1 @kramesh95 @DuttaS92 nature.com/articles/s4159…

3/ They primarily navigate through forested land, with less anthropogenic disturbance and higher vegetation cover positively influencing dispersal. Interestingly, water availability had minimal impact on movement patterns.

2/ Tigers exhibit a strategy: moving faster at night to cover longer distances, with travelling (~68%) more prominent than encamping (~32%).

5/🦴Hyena Dependency on Tigers: Hyenas exhibited a significantly higher conditional occupancy in the presence of tigers compared to leopards, underscoring their reliance on tiger kills for scavenging. This reflects an adaptive strategy by hyenas to maximize feeding opportunities.
