In all honesty, she felt like a genuine gift. We had plenty more money to spend and still can’t quite believe we were able to buy her for less than the current service fee of her sire 😲 She is out of Fairouz, a daughter of champion stallion Dubawi, who herself was a $500,000 yearling. The depth of this female family is exceptional. Her granddam Guapaza won eight races, six of them at stakes level, and was Group 1 placed on three further occasions. A very satisfying win at Yarra Valley yesterday for the beautifully bred gelding First Thought. Facing the starter for just the seventh time in his career, third up from a spell and stepping out to a more suitable trip, First Thought gave his connections all the warm and fuzzies when breaking his maiden in strong fashion on Saturday. He travelled sweetly, let down with purpose and put the race to bed like a horse who has now worked it all out. A lovely reward for a patient ownership group and a great result for the team.
