I keep hearing that Andor is good, but I’ve never had great affection for Rogue One. Does this have any bearing on my probable level of appreciation for Andor?

I have free Disney+ for one week. Should I watch season two of Mando? I’m pretty burnt out on modern Star Wars, but I enjoyed season one when it was fresh.

I think a lot of people share your exact view - even if everyone held your exact position I dont think that it will ever be overcome enough for people to look back on those movies fondly. They’re still missing the soul that 1-3 had and that people found

Never send a biologist to do the work of a computer scientist. Dawkins doesn't understand that evolution built human computational abilities breadth-first — memory, language, object model, generalization and classification, agency, and so on, all in a primitive state, and then refined them. Computer science isn't doing that. It is building human capabilities depth-first. So we have something that emulates human language capabilities to an advanced degree... ... but nothing else. That's why there is a curious sense of something missing when you talk to Claude or Grok or ChatGPT. It's not some minor errors with use of language itself. Its language capabilities are quite advanced. What you are detecting instead is the complete absence of these other neural systems, which are what lies behind the use of language in people. Something that is very glib with language but has no object model, no mirroring ability, no understanding of the ground truth of the universe its in might be able to become president of the United States, or win a Nobel peace prize, but it isn't actually a person. It's more like a small slice of a person's brain, containing Wernicke's and Broca's areas, and very little else. We're not used to thinking of people as a collection of systems, but we're going to have to start, because we no longer have the luxury of dividing the universe in human and not, and automatically assuming every human is a person, and every non-human isn't. You can't evaluate a software neural net as if it were a proto-human, and try to decide on that basis whether it is a person that's allowed to do what we allow people to do. If you allowed a small slice of brain, containing Wernicke's and Broca's areas, to do things like vote or run for office, then it would be able to appear to do so, but have no actual understanding of what was going on, no coherent model of the universe or the task before it. This would lead to disaster for any number of issues, such as race relations or the medical industry. Let me be 100% clear... LLMs are not people. They are not people now. They will never be people. And anyone who thinks LLMs are people is probably not a person, either. We may someday make something that is a person. But it will have an LLM, not be one.

Two things, I’m not against a proof for consciousness, but him writing this as proof of Claude’s consciousness proves that he has a fundamental misunderstanding of how this technology works and exposes his worldview as primarily narcissistic - which I think we already knew

Erm, I think your timeline is a little off. First sequel came out over 10 years ago now, if we map that to 1999 then we’re around 2009 - when clone wars was taking off and people definitely started to have a positive perception of the prequels. Sure, could still change. But there’s no signs that it will and Disney is doing absolutely nothing to help

@sickspitefulman @nick_field90 There's still time. Prequel revisionism took a critical mass of people who saw them when they were 8 becoming adults. Rise of Skywalker was only 6½ years ago, it'll be almost another decade before we get sequel revisionism (if indeed it's going to happen, which it may not)

@sickspitefulman @nick_field90 I mean Disney has essentially done nothing to redeem any of the movies - if we compare episode 1 and 2’s redemption arc then we’re at the point where 7 should have at least a few staunch defenders, but it seems they just don’t exist.

I still look at 16 and 1 star as almost memes. Obviously they arent, but the categories should be obsolete. Like most other game communities would have it be Any%, 100% (120) and maybe 70 Star.

The fact that this is a genuine conversation and that there are articulate arguments on both sides is blowing my mind

If you’re on pace for medals throughout the game, his lines are actually change and he becomes more encouraging. Sector Y, when you hit about 70% through the level, fox says “we’re gonna break through that fleet” if you’re behind, falco will chime in with “is that the best you can do?” If you’re on pace, that line will be replaced by Peppy saying “you’re becoming more like your father” That’s the first one I can think of but there’s multiple like that throughout the game

Tears of the Kingdom is better than breath of the wild in every single way and people dislike it only because it didn't give them the same thrill Botw gave them, because it obviously builds on botw

@GregMikaels Would save them a lot of time on world design but then you have the very difficult task of populating the entire world with new NPCs not just once, but twice due to the time skip I wouldn’t hate it but I hope for something new LOL
