It is intriguing that Dr WSR presidency has, so far, no Cabinet Secretary that the media have described as "powerful". Old Jomo had Mbiyu, Angaine, Paulo Ngei, Mboya... Mzee Moi had Njonjo, Biwot, Nyachae, Mudavadi Senior, Sunkuli, Ntimama, JJ Kamotho etc... Kibaki had Saitoti, Michuki, Mwiraria, Maitha... Uhuru had Magoha, Matiangi... These were men of personal force, who didn't even need to invoke the President's name when they were kicking your ass. In the WSR Cabinet, only Duale comes to mind. The rest? Nah. Omwami William has certain cabinet secretaries who could be chased by kanjo askaris down Moi Avenue because they are not instantly recognisable. Mtu mama CS Eric Mugaa na Kabogo wanaweza pelekwa siaka na Nairobi kanjo ile mbayaa. More intriguing is that otherwise forceful personalities as Oparanya, Joho and Kafogo who know how to wield power and who, in past administrations, could have earned the "powerful minister" tag are barely visible.

Kenyatta’s condition was worsening. His memory frayed, his speech drifted, and his once formidable gait faltered. When he left Nakuru for Mombasa on August 2, 1978, those around him sensed the beginning of the end. The next day he never left State House grounds; his words had become incoherent, and walking required pauses long enough to unsettle even his loyalists. On Friday, August 4, Mzee opened the Mombasa Agricultural Society of Kenya Show and replaced the final line “thank you” with an unintended “Amen.” It was the last official speech of his life, a quiet benediction in place of a farewell. Ten days later, on August 14, he gathered his family at State House Mombasa. Ostensibly, it was to mark his 1961 release from detention. But whispers travelled faster than protocol everyone sensed an unspoken goodbye. And indeed, the old man was making his final rounds. A week later, on August 21, Kenyatta hosted all Kenyan envoys for lunch. And it was after this meal that the tragedy unfolded right before his staff’s eyes. Leaving the dining room, he lost his way staggering into a dingy caretaker’s office filled with dirty dishes and startled workers who had only ever seen him on banknotes and school walls. Climbing the staircase back to his quarters became an ordeal punctuated by stops, sighs, and silence. Anyone with an ounce of compassion would have cancelled the Msambweni entertainment event planned for the next day. But those around him the powerful Koinange, the ever-calculating PC Mahihu, and the dutiful Comptroller Gitau pushed on, clinging to schedule over sense. The convoy proceeded to Msambweni Primary School, where dancers and school choirs had been assembled for one last show. By then, Mzee was barely holding on. Halfway through the performances, he excused himself to the makeshift washroom behind the dais. Minutes passed. Then too many minutes. Mbiyu and Mahihu rushed in and found him slumped lifelessly on the toilet seat. They lifted him delicately, rearranged his clothing, and guided him back to the dais behind a tight security cordon a moment of raw human decline hidden under choreography and manufactured cheer. To maintain the illusion that all was well, Mahihu asked Mzee to end the ceremony with his signature call .. "Harambee". It was cruel. It was unnecessary. But Kenyatta obeyed, mustering a roar louder than anything his failing body had produced in months. It was also the last roar he would ever give. At 4a.m., on Tuesday, August 22, 1978. Outside the main building of the statehouse Mombasa, stood an ambulance. And that was the full stop on Jomo Kenyatta’s chapter on earth. Rip The lion. For more Kenyan History follow @timothyturunga .I love telling Kenyan History stories.

Kenya has fuel to last 2 weeks and 50 tones of crude oil is said to be docking today. To understand whether this is good or bad, we should ask, how much our reserves have been holding before and our fuel consumption daily. Most gas stations huwa wanahoard ndio wapandishe bei. But I'm not sure this is a discussion most of you want. You don't want to get into details just vilification!

What kind of opposition is Rigathi Gachagua? Today, he could have called a press conference to address KEWOTA theft and corruption, but instead he is just chilling at his Wamunyoro home, focused on tribal politics from morning to evening.

Typical goon day: Wake up 5am. Vuta bangi. Eat last night's leftover ugali and sukuma for breakfast with black tea. Get ferried to a nearby town in a bus with other goons. Cause havoc at 12pm rally. Run, get teargassed and pay your own way home with a deep gnash in the shin and bloodshot eyes. Eat njugu and black tea with sweet potatoe at 5pm and bandage yourself. Vuta bangi. Peleka pesa ya goonism kwa bar, kula nyama na kachumbari. Malizia siku kwa malaya.

It is hard to understand how Mulima moved from following visionary leaders like Matiba and JM Kariuki to rallying behind figures like Gachagua and Methu Listening to Methu on Citizen TV yesterday. It was difficult to pick out anything progressive. Just empty confidence with very little substance
