Why apply for the Level 2 EBCTS Fellowship Examination? João Pedro Monteiro, last year's successful candidate, says the Fellowship offered much more than just an exam. He found that daily clinical practice and up-to-date guidelines deepened his knowledge, while talking through real cases with experienced examiners gave him valuable insights. Earning the EBCTS Fellowship made him proud and recognised his work across Europe. The Level 2 EBCTS Fellowship Examination recognises the knowledge, clinical judgement and professional standards required for independent specialist practice in cardiothoracic surgery through structured, case-based oral assessments. What does excellence in cardiovascular surgical critical care look like? From the operating theatre to the intensive care unit, cardiovascular surgeons and multidisciplinary teams play a critical role in delivering the highest standards of care throughout the patient's journey. To support this evolving area of practice, EACTS and the European Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery (EBCTS) have established the Cardiovascular Surgery Critical Care Certification. This certification sets shared standards and qualifications for cardiovascular surgical critical care in Europe and beyond. Designed for surgeons and other specialists who care for cardiovascular surgery patients. It acknowledges the skills, knowledge, and judgement needed to lead teams and improve patient outcomes. 📢 More information on applications will be available later this year. 💡 Innovation is not just about developing new technologies. It is also about creating better futures for patients. At EACTS, we are proud to support projects that have the potential to improve long-term outcomes and address some of the biggest challenges in cardiothoracic surgery. This year's recipient, Paul Philipp Heinisch, is exploring the use of bacterial cellulose to develop a valved conduit for children born with congenital heart defects, aiming to provide a more durable solution and ultimately reduce the need for repeated operations. Reflecting on the award, Paul shared how grateful he is for the opportunity to advance this work and continue translating innovative ideas into solutions that could benefit future generations of patients. Together, we are helping drive the next wave of innovation in cardiothoracic surgery. 🔍 Discover more 🔗 eacts.org/education/eact…
