The ongoing Soil Health Campaign by @USAID and @FeedtheFuture KCDMS Activity in Homabay County kicked off today with a flag off by HE @gladyswanga Farmers in the 40 wards will be sensitized on the importance of soil health and 8,000 will access rapid soil pH tests. Through its mobile lab, OCP Africa, will conduct a comprehensive soil analysis for at least 200 samples. The governor said : "We are blessed with good agricultural land. As a County, we plan to introduce cash crops such as oil palms, essential oils and revive the cotton industry. In collaboration with iCampus-Liberia, EAMDA hosted a workshop to empower Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises to promote access to finance, capacity-building, and innovation, specifically tailored to women, youth, and persons with disabilities! funded by @UNDP.

Recurrent droughts and crop failures have led to a lack of seeds for farmers in the South-eastern Kenya region. @USAID and @FeedtheFuture through KCDMS have supported two seed merchants in Kitui and Taita Taveta counties to work with community seed multipliers and seed growers to avail drought tolerant crop (DTC) seeds to farmers in readiness for the next planting season. KCDMS has also conducted an assessment to evaluate challenges and opportunities in the drought tolerant legumes seed system in SEK. The project has brought together key stakeholders including county governments, private sector, seed merchants, development partners, research institution, regulatory bodies, and farmers to validate the findings in Kitui, Makueni and Taita Taveta counties. The findings will inform appropriate actions by stakeholders to build resilient communities in the SEK region. #droughttolerance #ClimateAction #feedthefuture

During May 31 – June 1, 2023, @USAID Feed the Future Kenya Crops and Dairy Market Systems Activity supported @KenyaAvocados (Avocado Society of Kenya) to bring together 250+ participants for the Avocado Africa 2023 conference themed “Convergence of Technology and Business for Increased Competitiveness and Trade. KCDMS has distributed over 50,000 avocado seedlings to farmers in the Western region(a new frontier for Kenyan avocado farming) and trained over 17,000 farmers in avocado farming. #Avocados #FeedtheFuture #Agriculture Reports such as this make all the work worthwhile. nation.africa/kenya/business… @FeedtheFuture

Agri-nutrition training involves educating farmers and communities about nutrition so they can produce, prepare and consume healthy foods. Better nutrition is linked to improved infant, child and maternal health, stronger immune systems , lower risk of non-communicable diseases as well as higher productivity. An important impact focal area for @USAID's @FeedtheFuture KCDMS activity is to implement agri-nutrition strategies to address malnutrition in Kenya through collaboration with key stakeholders. From planting to harvest, it's been an incredible journey with #ICBO farmers supported by @USAIDKenya, #feedthefuture #KCDMS to increase seed production. Despite challenges like pesky aphids, these farmers have achieved remarkable yields. Here's to more successful harvests.
