St Nicholas', Feltwell in Norfolk, is one of two churches in this large village on the edge of the Fens. The church is as broad as it is long, like a meeting house. This impression is enhanced by the light pouring through clear glass windows.

September 14th is Holy-Rood Day and according to folklore found in Publications of the Folk-Lore Society (1878) it was a bad day for collecting hazel nuts in Kent, Suffolk and Lincolnshire.

My new favourite Norfolk brass - that of Sir William Yelverton at Rougham. Yelverton was a powerful man both in local and national affairs, he was Recorder of Norwich and was a justice of the King's Bench from 1444 until his death in the 1470s.

Elizabeth I ordered that figures in the rood loft be replaced with the royal coat of arms. In St Mary's Kenninghall, Elizabeth's arms, once in the chancel arch, are now located in the north aisle. Love the naively-painted Welsh dragon introduced by grandfather, Henry Tudor.
