Obesity isn’t just about weight — it’s a whole-body disease. And one of its quietest victims? Your liver. Did you know 90% of people living with obesity develop MASLD (Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease) — often without knowing it? This World Obesity Day (March 4), ELPA calls for earlier screening, better awareness, and integrated care. Liver health is metabolic health. Let’s stop treating it as an afterthought.

📃Poster Tour II is now bringing another wave of cutting edge research into focus at #SLDSummit. Innovative machine learning approaches for risk stratification in MASLD are being presented alongside data on the impact of new therapeutic indications on treatment eligibility. Experimental studies are also exploring acute dietary effects on hepatic fat, environmental drivers of immune reprogramming, mitochondrial interactions in MASLD and the role of pro inflammatory CD8+ T cells in early fibrosis. The Plenary session at #SLDSummit has tackled a crucial question in SLD care, whose job is it? Effective management demands a truly multidisciplinary approach. The discussion explored who should assess liver fibrosis, who takes responsibility for cardiovascular risk, and how screening for advanced chronic liver disease can be refined in the general population. Addiction therapy was also in focus, with practical insights into who should deliver it and how care pathways can be better coordinated. Only ~5% of patients with alcohol-related liver disease receive medications for alcohol use disorder. Yet data presented by Dr. Hugo Lopez show these therapies improve survival. This is a missed opportunity. We should be prescribing them routinely. #ALDSummit
