@DerekSeveri @TLowePower Unless I suppose if it was an environmental sample where you could just go back to that location and sample more, but my guess is that's not what you have in mind?

@DerekSeveri @TLowePower Yeah I'd think if you're waiting on sequencing results before trying to isolate, some form of glycerol and snap freezing is gonna be your main option. I've also seen papers where they plated and then scraped the whole plate into a glycerol stock.

@dr_kozik You're a genius. This might be the only use of two-factor authentificatuon that doesn't make me grumpy

@szintri One of these moments is burned into my grad school memory. @Anjali_IP prefaced going through the review together with tons of encouragement and what I think would be best described as righteous anger over unhelpful, just plain mean review comments.

Have you ever withheld a peer review from authors in your own lab? Received one that was extremely derisive. Contained no actionable feedback. I was tempted. Probably not a good idea. I didn’t do it. But wish I could.

@blacksciblog Uugggh preach! Every single year of my GRFP (and my husband's F32), they messed up the paperwork, causing us not to get paid. AND because I finished my fellowship right before my maternity leave I wasn't eligible for FMLA bc I had only been a "real" employee for a month🙄

Why do universities treat trainees getting NIH, NSF, or other awards or grants as a burden? How about - "Great! Let's make sure nothing changes in how often/much they get paid and make sure they keep their health insurance, because these are very reasonable things to expect."

@EA_French Yes, we got almost 50% off! Perfect price for a grad student. And it ended up being a sunny day with fresh white snow!

I had a great wedding anniversary this weekend! I get the appeal of June weddings, but it's so much better to have an anniversary in the bleakest time of year when you really could use a celebration. Your wedding is one day, but your anniversary date is forever!

Will Twitter community help me to fulfill a task from my new boss, please? Which non-ethidium bromide staining would you recommend for agarose #DNA #gels? And should we consider any particular imaging system alongside with it? Thanks for sharing you experience. 🙏 #Lab #Exchange

@szintri If I had a dollar for every time I've been to a talk where I didn't know the thing that we "probably all knew" 🤣

I've been working in science since 2005. I've yet to hear anyone complain about a talk having too much introduction/background. You don't need to feel nervous, or rush, or apologize for background. Avoid statements like "As you probably all know..." (4/6)

MGM2021 happens tomorrow. Ten years ago, at my third maize genetics meeting, I gave my first scientific talk _ever_. I was terrified. I survived. Some quick and basic tricks for scientific presentations I've learned in the decade since. (1/6)

Any other Elizabeths worried they’re going to accidentally sign an email “Elizabethtown” because of gmail’s autocomplete suggestions?

So thankful for the opportunity to have worked for @drksolomon over the past five years, can’t imagine this journey without his guidance! Looking forward to seeing everything that the future holds for the Solomon Lab!

Congrats to @EthanHillman on the successful defense of his PhD Dissertation. As the first PhD of the lab, I could not be more proud. Good luck on your postdoc @umichmedicine and I look forward to submitting your papers. @PurdueABE @PU_OIGP

Dear @NBCNews -- Everyone that receives the #Covid19 #vaccine will die after receiving it. They don't vaccinate dead people. Your headline conflates non-related events, and stymies public health efforts.

I'm late to this conversation, but given the week, I want to say I'm so incredibly thankful for my wonderful, brilliant, inspiring female mentors @enders_lab and @Anjali_IP. I hope someday to be able to invest in new scientists the way you two have and continue to invest in me.
