Good data is the glue that holds the whole cost management framework together. GM is very good at responding to today's problems. Tomorrow's are another matter. Recent discussions have focused on whether mobility policies should react to immediate events – from conflict-driven pressures in the Middle East to questions around location allowances. But stepping back, the same question applies more broadly. Are policy decisions being driven by a consistent objective, or by whatever is most pressing in the moment? Our latest piece looks at sustainability in global mobility through that lens. The data suggests that while it still appears in policy, it is rarely the primary driver of decision-making. Cost, flexibility and practicality continue to take precedence – with sustainability often following rather than leading. That works while conditions remain stable.
