Since 2020, we have monitored over 800 attacks on press freedom, targeting over 1,450 Turkish journalists and media actors. One of many reasons why digital archiving initiatives are so timely and important for independent journalism in Turkey.

Media freedom is in sharp decline worldwide, marked by attacks on journalists, escalating legal pressure on newsrooms, and the forced closure of independent outlets. #WPFD highlights the stakes, but press freedom is not a date in the calendar. It needs defending every single day.
