“𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮 𝗶𝘀 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘂𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.” That message defined the closing of the 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵-𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗳𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗮’𝘀 𝗡𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗳𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗰𝗲 in Kigali, Rwanda. 🇷🇼 For three days, African health leaders, nurses, midwives, educators, regulators, and young professionals came together to confront a shared reality, the future of Africa’s health systems depends on how we invest in nurses and midwives today. The discussions moved beyond challenges to practical solutions: harmonized curricula, expanded fellowship accreditation, regional scholarships, and the establishment of a Regional Knowledge, Simulation and Virtual Learning Hub in Arusha, Tanzania. In his closing remarks, Dr. Ntuli Kapologwe reminded participants that strengthening nursing and midwifery is not only about workforce numbers, but about ensuring every community has access to skilled and compassionate healthcare professionals. Meanwhile, Dr. Glory Msibi emphasized the importance of harmonized standards, professional recognition, and stronger regional collaboration for the future of nursing and midwifery across Africa. As Kigali closes, the work now shifts to implementation. #KigaliCommunique #ECSAHC #ECSACONM #Nursing #Midwifery #HealthWorkforce #AfricaHealth #AUDANEPAD

Peer learning at continental scale. Nurse regulators from Zambia alongside curriculum architects from Kenya – comparing credit frameworks, finding more common ground than either expected. Midwifery educators from Tanzania sharing clinical assessment models that colleagues from Uganda immediately recognize as the solution to a problem their institution has been navigating for years. We’re convening this hard-won, practice-tested knowledge from across East, Central and Southern Africa – so it can finally move freely across porous and culturally united borders that have too long kept it contained. Africa has the answers. South-South Cooperation is the infrastructure to share them – systematically, sustainably, and at scale. RH Counts: Invest. Act.
