Zach Lowe shares a tanking solution idea that came up in the GMs meeting that intrigued a few General Managers: A proposal to not get rid of the draft entirely, but get rid of the draft order. Every team gets 100 draft credits let’s say. You bid your draft credits on every individual slot in the draft. You can also trade your draft credits like a veteran player for 40 draft credits if you want to go in a rebuilding direction. As teams advance in the playoffs, they lose draft credits so the best teams would have less to bid on individual picks. So you can take all your credits and bid on the number 1 pick in the draft if you want. Or if you think next years draft is better, you roll your credits over. (Via Zach Lowe Show)

The Process was ~10 years ago, and only now are they coming to the conclusion that tanking is existential to the product. It’s comical, but predictable. One look at the NBA league office and team ownership tells you the sport itself is not the priority. They are too busy squeezing every dollar out of gambling partnerships and forcing fans to juggle multiple subscriptions just to watch games. The game, the competition, the integrity all come second. They would rather chase the latest cultural flashpoint than protect the on-court product.

In trying to fix the tanking problem, the NBA is going to run headfirst into the reality of unintended consequences. None of these people are equipped to come up with a good solution.

The fact that “space is fake” is an actual position held by a measurable number of people really proves that we’re in the middle of a retard epidemic. There are people walking around today who somehow have a worse understanding of astronomy than the average Sumerian in the year 3,000 BC. What would it even mean for space to be fake?
